GUILTY PLEA OF RENE OTERO BAUTISTA

[Greeneville, Tennessee] - Russ Dedrick, U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Tennessee, announced today that Rene Otero Bautista, 26, a native of Mexico, pled guilty on July 10, 2008, in the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Tennessee at Greeneville, Tennessee, to knowingly using a false Resident Alien Card for the purpose of satisfying a requirement of the American Employment Verification System. Sentencing has been set for November 24, 2008, at 9:00 a.m,. in United States District Court, Greeneville, Tennessee. Bautista faces a maximum term of imprisonment of five (5) years; a maximum fine of $250,000; up to three (3) years supervised release; forfeiture of the false document; and, deportation immediately upon completion of his term of imprisonment. He remains in federal custody until sentencing. Bautista was one of six (6) foreign nationals who were indicted by a federal grand jury after investigation by the Morristown, Tennessee Police Department and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI). He presented a false Resident Alien Card to Henley Roofing Company in Knoxville, Tennessee, in order to procure employment. On June 8, 2008, a two-count indictment, which included the aforementioned charge, was returned against Bautista by a federal grand jury sitting in Greeneville, Tennessee.
