NEWS RELEASE

R. Joe Clark, Special Agent in Charge of the Knoxville Division of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), and Police Chief Sterling P. Owen IV of the Knoxville Police Department, are asking for the public's assistance in identifying the person who robbed an Amsouth Bank today.

The Amsouth Bank at 7320 Chapman Highway, Knoxville, Tennessee, was the victim of a bank robbery today. Witnesses report that at approximately 11:40 a.m. this morning, a white male, who looked to be in his late 50s, approximately five foot seven inches tall, with a medium to stocky build, entered the bank. He was wearing a dark ball cap with no insignia, and a dark windbreaker over a dark pocketed tee-shirt. The man handed a demand note to a teller, pulled his jacket aside to reveal protruding wires, and said he had a bomb. The man left with an undetermined amount of money. He was last seen exiting the bank on foot out the south side door of the building.

Anyone having any information concerning this robbery should call the FBI at (865) 544-0751 or the Knoxville Police Department's Hotline at (865) 215-7212.

The public is cautioned not to approach this individual, but to immediately notify law enforcement of his whereabouts. The public is further reminded that all defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
