Seeking Public's Assistance in Locating Bank Robber

R. Joe Clark, Special Agent in Charge of the Knoxville Division of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), Sheriff James Berrong of Blount County, Tennessee, and Bill Wright, Chief Ranger of Great Smoky Mountains National Park, announce the arrest of William Joseph Moyers, Jr., age 42, of Alcoa, Tennessee.

Moyers was charged via an authorized criminal complaint today in United States District Court, Eastern District of Tennessee at Knoxville with one count violation of Title 18 United States Code section 1111 (a), Murder within the special maritime and territorial jurisdiction of the United States - specifically second degree murder in a national park. Moyers was taken into custody early in the morning of May 21, 2005, at Abrams Creek Campground following the death of Steven Lynn Davis, age 24, of Greenback, Tennessee.

Moyers was provided an initial appearance this afternoon in front of United States Magistrate Clifford C. Shirley. He was remanded to the custody of the United States Marshal with a detention hearing and a preliminary hearing scheduled for Wednesday, May 24, 2006.

The public is reminded that a criminal complaint is an accusation only, and that all defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
