Bobby Joe Phillips named as five-time bank robber:

 

The Knoxville Division of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), Chief of Police Sterling P. Owen, IV of the Knoxville Police Department (KPD), and Chief Deputy Tom Spangler of the Knox County Sheriff’s Office (KCSO), are asking for the public’s assistance locating Bobby Joe Phillips on the charge of bank robbery.

Bobby Joe Phillips is described as a sixty-nine year old resident of Covington, Georgia. He is 5’10” tall and weighs 170 pounds. He has gray hair, blue eyes, and wears glasses. Phillips has tattoos on his forearms. He drives a 2003 red Chevrolet S-10 pickup with Georgia license AWG 7679.

A warrant charging Phillips with federal bank robbery was issued based on an FBI complaint this afternoon. The warrant is signed by United States Magistrate C. Clifford Shirley, Jr., United States District Court, Eastern District of Tennessee.

Investigation has identified Phillips as having robbed five financial institutions: The Tennessee Members 1 st Federal Credit Union in Knoxville, Tennessee on November 1, 2007, the First Georgia Community Bank in Covington, Georgia on September 20, 2007, the First Tennessee Bank on Cedar Bluff Road in Knoxville on October 1, 2007 and again on October 12, 2007, and the SunTrust Bank in Suwanee, Georgia on October 24, 2007.

Anyone with information is asked to call the FBI at 865/544-0751, or the KPD at 865/215-7212. The public is reminded not to approach Phillips, but to contact law enforcement.
