NEWS RELEASE

The Knoxville Division of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), and Raymond "Tony" Day, Jr., Chief of Police of Jellico, Tennessee, announce the arrest today of Kevin Paul Patterson following the robbery of a bank in Jellico.

At approximately 11:47 a.m. today, a lone white male entered the First State Financial Bank at 996 5th Street in Jellico.  He presented a note to a teller.  The note claimed that he had a gun and demanded money.  No weapon was displayed, but he held his hand at his waist as if he did have one.  The robber departed with an undetermined amount of money and was seen by witnesses northbound on Interstate 75 in a light gold, new-looking automobile.

A radio alert, "BOLO", was put out by the Jellico Police Department.  Various Kentucky law enforcement personnel heard the alert.  It resulted in the arrest of Patterson at mile marker 18 of I-75 in Kentucky.  Units from the Williamsburg Police Department, the Whitley County Sheriff's Office, and the Kentucky State Police made the stop.

Patterson is described as a 34 year old white male from Florida.  It was determined that he was wanted by authorities in Florida as well.  The investigation is continuing.

All defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
