Feds and police arrest Powell man for two area bank robberies
Shawn Michael Tompa, age 28, of Powell, Tennessee was arrested at approximately 6:00 p.m. yesterday without incident at the Blue Haven Motel in Lake City. The arrest was carried out by Special Agents of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) along with officers from the Knoxville Police Department (KPD), the Clinton Police Department (CPD), and the Lake City Police Department (LCPD). The initial arrest was based on a KPD warrant for robbery stemming from the September 25, 2007 robbery of the Y-12 Federal Credit Union at 6640 Clinton Highway, and a CPD warrant for robbery stemming from yesterday’s robbery at the Regions Bank at 245 N. Main Street in Clinton, Tennessee.
An authorized complaint was filed this morning in United States District Court in Knoxville charging Tompa with two counts of Bank Robbery under Title 18 United States Code section 2213. Tompa will be afforded an initial appearance at 2:00 p.m. this afternoon in front of United States Magistrate H. Bruce Guyton.
The public is reminded that all defendants are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.
